PROGRAMS

Junior Academy – Group Tennis Lessons for Children (3 to 18 years old)


Our Junior Academy provides group instruction for children 3 years of age through high school ages of various abilities.  Your children will learn the mechanics and footwork necessary for hitting the ball properly from our highly qualified staff.   They will be challenged at their particular skill level and have a great time learning the game of a lifetime!  These programs are offered in monthly sessions.

Class Offerings:

Level 1 Red Ball (Age 4-5)

Kids are introduced to the fundamentals of tennis through activities designed to build a solid foundation for long term athletic development. Activities are focused on developing the ABCs (agility, balance, and coordination) all while forming skills necessary to serve, rally, and score.

  • Max of 6 children per class at this time.
  • Class Times: Thursday 9-9:30am and Saturday 10:30-11am
  • Member Price $15 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.
  • Non Member Price $25 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.

Orange Ball Level 1 (Age 8-10)

This level introduces the basics skills of tennis through the use of hand-eye coordination drills along with stroke production. The ABCs (agility, balance, and coordination) are a major focus at this level. Cooperative drills are used to introduce players to serve, rally, and scoring. The low compression orange balls are used on the 60-foot Orange Courts.

  • Max of 12 children per class at this time.
  • Class Times:  Tuesday and Thursday 5:00-6:00pm and Saturday 11:00-12:00pm
  • Member Price $20 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.
  • Non Member Price $30 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.

Beginner: Green Ball Level 1 (Age 10-12)

This level introduces the basics skills of tennis through the use of hand-eye coordination drills along with stroke production. The ABCs (agility, balance, and coordination) are a major focus at this level. Cooperative drills are used to introduce players to serve, rally, and scoring. Students will build a strong foundation through playing and fun drills that will lead to quicker development. The low compression green balls or standard yellow balls are used on the 78-foot Green Courts.

  • Max of 16 children per class at this time.
  • Class Times:  Tuesday and Thursday 4:00-6:00pm
  • Member Price $30 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.
  • Non Member Price $45 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.

 

Beginner: Yellow Ball Level 1 (Age 13 & Up) 

This level introduces the basics skills of tennis through the use of hand-eye coordination drills along with stroke production. The ABCs (agility, balance, and coordination) are a major focus at this level. Cooperative drills are used to introduce players to serve, rally, and scoring. Students will build a strong foundation through playing and fun drills that will lead to quicker development. The low compression green balls or standard yellow balls are used on the 78-foot Green Courts.

Advanced Yellow Ball Training

Players in this level have demonstrated an understanding of the core concepts. They are able to vary their shots with different speed, spin, and placement. The focus at this level is on tactics and general point play. All players are encouraged to participate in Round Robins, Box Leagues, and USTA tournaments.

  • Max of 16 children per class at this time.
  • Class Times: Monday and Wednesday 4:00-6:00pm
  • Member Price $30 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.
  • Non Member Price $45 per day multiplied by the number of days in that calendar month.

Level 1– Diamond
Requirements: U.T.R. 6 and above, sound stroke production, knowledge of singles and doubles strategy, able to hit winners from anywhere on the court, tournament experience, has taken multiple private and group lessons, presently training with a coach and has multiple practice partners.

Level 2 – Gold
Requirements: Consistent groundstrokes (can sustain ten rallies), reliable serve, some competition experience, lacking control and power, able to hit topspin and slice shots with moderate success, some volley and overhead skills.

Level 3 – Silver
Requirements: Can sustain a 6 ball rally, able to hit 6 out of 10 serves in, knows how to keep score, able to direct the ball to a desired target with moderate results, good athletic abilities and hand eye coordination.

Junior Ladder League

As your child learns to play sets, we recommend they participate in our Junior Tennis Ladder to gain match play experience and confidence while implementing what they learn in clinics and lessons.
Fridays 4:00-6:00pm

Junior Tennis Ladder

As your child learns to play sets, we recommend that they participate in our Junior Tennis Ladder.  The ladder is used to determine which group a player belongs in and for our Tournament Training Clinics, we use it to determine court placements.  The ladder is a great way to play sets against other juniors and get great practice.

LEAGUES

We offer junior tennis leagues where our young members play sets against each other here at The Paseo Club on Fridays.  This is excellent for all children, including high school tennis players who are able to play sets. This league is offered in seven-week sessions.  Contact Tennis Director, Dina McBride, to get involved in our Youth League Tennis!

 

Description of Leagues
Friday
  • 4:00 pm League – Getting Started in Competition (this player can play sets, but hasn’t competed in tournaments yet).  Players will play one 8-game pro set each week.
  • 5:00 pm League – This player has or currently is competing in tournaments, leagues, or junior team tennis, or have been moved up from the 4:00 pm group.  Players will play one 8-game pro set each week.
  • 6:00 pm League – This group is perfect for advanced juniors or high school team players.  Players will play one 8-game pro set each week.
Saturday
  • 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm – High School Doubles League – This is for Varsity or Junior Varsity players on their high school teams.

CLUB JUNIOR LADDER

The Paseo Club has a ladder which is available to all members and participants in our Junior Tennis Programs.  To sign up to be on the ladder, email [email protected]  Please note that any matches played in USTA or VCJTA tournaments, or in the Junior Tennis League count on the Junior Tennis Ladder.  You don’t have to be in the League to participate in the Junior Ladder.

USTA JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS

The Paseo Club participates in the USTA Junior Team Tennis League.  We compete against other clubs and programs throughout the San Fernando, Santa Clarita Valleys and possibly even West Los Angeles.  Generally, the matches are held on Sunday afternoons.

Cost $100 for Paseo Club Member Juniors who are participating weekly in our Junior Academy (If the team makes Playoffs, there will be an additional fees)

Cost $150 for Paseo Club Member Juniors who aren’t participating in our Junior Academy (If the team makes Playoffs, there will be an additional fees).

Please note that all players on Paseo Club teams must be active members of The Paseo Club.

Children Group Lessons

Our Junior Academy has classes for children of all levels from 3 to 18 years of age.  Our goal is to teach your child how to develop the shots, footwork, and strategy needed to enjoy this sport their whole life!  Our Junior Tennis Camps are held during breaks in our Junior Academy during the summer and extended breaks from school, such as the holidays, spring and fall breaks.  Our outstanding pro staff is actively involved in the teaching of the Junior Academy and Camps.

TENNIS POLICIES

We have outlined some policies to help our members enjoy their tennis experience as much as possible.

Weekday Reservations
  • You may reserve a court up to two (2) days in advance with the exception of weekends and holidays before 12:00 pm.
  • If a weekday Holiday has special hours, then there are no reservations before noon.  If a weekday Holiday has normal hours, then court reservations may be made up to 2 days in advance.
  • If you are calling to reserve a court, you may call at 11:00 am, 2 days in advance.
  • To reserve a court, you may go online at 7:00 am.  Click here to go to online court booking.

  • You may also call the front desk at 661-257-0044, or go to the front desk and give them the names of the players you will be playing with at 9:00 am
  • If you are playing singles, your reservation guarantees you at least one hour of play.
  • If you are playing doubles, your reservation guarantees you at least ninety minutes of play.
  • You may play as long as you wish or until the next group comes out to take your court.
  • You may not reserve back to back time slots. You must wait at least 60 minutes after a singles reservation and at least 90 minutes after a doubles reservation ends to have a new reservation.  For example, if you are playing singles and you reserve a court at 5:00 pm, you cannot reserve another court until at least 7:00 pm.  If you are playing doubles and you reserve a court at 5:00 pm, you may not reserve another court until 8:00 pm.
  • You may not reserve a specific court number.  If you book a court online, you will book a specific court number but you might be moved to accommodate more members playing tennis if necessary.
  • If you are fifteen (15) minutes late for your reservation and don’t notify the front desk, your court reservation may be forfeited if other members are waiting.
  • Reservations are not mandatory but recommended when allowed.  You may also check in at the front desk and request a court.

 

Weekend and Holiday Reservations
  • On Weekends and certain Holidays, court reservations are not accepted until 12:00 pm.  During these times, courts are assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
  • If a weekday Holiday has special hours, then there are no reservations before noon.  If a weekday Holiday has normal hours, then court reservations may be made up to 2 days in advance.
  • To get a court, check in at the front desk when all players arrive, and if a court is available, you will be assigned that court and you may play.
  • If there is not a court available, you will be given a time to come back to the front desk for your court assignment.
  • For singles, you are guaranteed 60 minutes of play and for doubles, you are guaranteed 90 minutes of play.

 

Rules and Etiquette of Play
  • All members and their guests must register with the front desk staff prior to using courts.
  • Tennis players will be assigned to a court when they check in with the desk.
  • When walking on a court that people are playing on, you should wait until the point is over, then politely let the group know that you are entering the court.
  • Excessive noise is acceptable on and around the tennis courts, with very few exceptions.
  • No food or drinks, other than water or sports drinks should be brought onto the tennis court.
  • When leaving the court, it is expected that you will throw away all trash, place any tennis balls should be picked up and either placed into the top slot of the trash cans outside the courts where used tennis balls are requested to be placed into or brought to the front desk if you no longer want them.
  • Your used towels should be placed in the towel bins throughout the Club or at the front desk.
  • Members are required to familiarize themselves, their family and their guests with the rules and etiquette of tennis, as outlined in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) handbook.
  • The tennis professionals, acting under the direction of Management, have responsibility for supervision and control of all matters relating to play on the tennis courts.
  • The tennis professionals may refuse court privileges to anyone who, in the professional’s judgment, violates the rules of play and etiquette.
  • Members may make requests for specific courts; however, while we will try to accommodate each request, we cannot guarantee them.

 

Activities Prohibited on the Tennis Courts

The following items and activities are prohibited on tennis courts:

  • Food or beverages (other than water or sports drinks), chewing gum, glass containers, smoking, racquet throwing, use of profanity, and abuse of The Paseo Club property (i.e. hitting balls against the windscreen…) are prohibited on the tennis courts.
  • No game other than tennis may be played on the courts without permission from the Management.

 

Dress Code

Members must wear appropriate attire in styles specifically designed for tennis at all times while on the court.  Tennis shoes must be worn while on the courts (No black sole shoes of any type are permitted on the courts).

Men: Tennis T-shirt or collared shirt – No tank tops or torn shirts may be worn. Shirts must be worn at all times while on the court.  Tennis shorts or warm-ups must be worn on the tennis courts, and ripped or cut-off shorts may not be worn.

Women: Tennis shirt or tennis tank tops are permitted.
 Sports bras must be covered by a tennis shirt or tank top.
 Tennis shorts, skirts, or warm-ups must be worn while on the courts, and bike shorts are not acceptable.

We have these policies so that everyone’s experience on the tennis courts will be enjoyable.  Thank you for doing your part to make The Paseo Club a great place to play.
