Do you love getting out on the courts with your friends to play a few games of tennis? Have you considered taking your playing to the next level?

Every year more than 300,000 people play in tennis leagues across the United States.

Belonging to a tennis league is a great way to stay active, improve your tennis game, and have the chance to compete.

The Paseo Club has several tennis leagues for men, women, and mixed teams of many different levels.

In this article, you will learn what a tennis league is, the benefits of joining a tennis league, what leagues are at the Paseo Club, and how you can sign up to join.

Tennis leagues provide the opportunity to test your game against people with different styles and abilities.

Competitions for tennis leagues are held weekly and organized according to your tennis rating. The top teams from local leagues earn the chance to compete in district and/or sectional championships. The winners of the sectionals move on to national championships.

There are two styles of leagues.

  • You choose a partner in advance to play with
  • In ladder-league formats, you rotate your partner each set in a three set/match. In this method, the cumulative score of all players will determine the winner. At the end of week seven, whoever has the most points wins.

tennis-1What are the benefits of joining a tennis league?

There are several advantages to being part of a tennis league.

  • Experience camaraderie
  • Build long-lasting friendships
  • Strengthen your mental game
  • Enjoy a competitive environment
  • Develop your tennis-playing skills

Recently, The Journal of Medicine and Science in Tennis published a study titled Improved General Health Outcomes in US Recreational Tennis Players. The authors surveyed 10,000 USTA league players and found the more you play tennis — in particular league tennis — the healthier you are likely to be.

“USTA league players have higher general, physical, social, and mental health scores than the general population median,” the authors concluded in the summary.

If you are looking for a reason to play more tennis, consider joining one of the Paseo Club’s tennis leagues. It will help you improve your skills, develop social connections, and have fun.

If you think you would like to join a league, make sure you check the league’s schedule against your own. When you sign up, your teammates are depending on you. It is best to make sure you can commit to all league events.

The Paseo Club opened twenty years ago as a tennis club. The tennis side grew with drills, leagues, comps, and fundraisers. Fitness and pickleball facilities soon followed, and now the club is a full-service private social club with tennis and pickleball courts, over 60 fitness classes taught every week, and a junior Olympic pool.

If you are looking to relax after a rigorous tennis game, come grab a beer at the clubhouse, a bite to eat at the cafe or treat yourself to a massage at the spa.

If you love tennis and want to meet like-minded locals from the SCV, check out the Paseo Club. You can schedule a tour to check out all eight acres of the facilities and meet instructors and members.
