Pilates has taken the world by storm as one of the best ways to build strength, increase mobility, and develop a mind-body practice. Thousands of people attend Pilates classes every day, learning from certified instructors and training on reformer machines.

You do not need much gear to attend a Pilates class. Most people have everything they need in their closet, with the exception of one item — socks. Pilates socks to be exact.

Pilates socks are fitted socks with silicone dots or patterns on the soles that help you grip the reformer or mat when doing Pilates. They also keep you warm during your workout and provide a hygienic barrier between you and shared equipment. These socks are so helpful that many studios mandate students to wear them during class.

When you buy Pilates socks, you want them to be durable, comfortable, and look good. Unfortunately, not all Pilates socks are made well. In this article, you will learn which Pilates socks are the absolute best.

JE6_5245What are the Top 8 Pilates Socks?

The Paseo Club’s professional Pilates instructor, Ashley Smith, has tried all the Pilates socks, so you don’t have to. She’s assessed style, durability, and grip. Read on to learn which ones she recommends.

#8 Great Soles

Great Soles socks are cute, textured socks in several colors and styles. Choose from high-cut, crew, or ballet-style. The material is a cotton blend and a little thicker than some of the others, making it a cozy option on cool days. One size fits all. They cost $14-22 per pair.

#7 Baremä

Baremä socks are dual compression socks with extra support at the ankle and arch. Socks are made from a cotton-spandex blend and pre-shrunk for a great fit. They come in a classic white-and-black design and a rotating selection of colors. Diehard Pilates practitioners love their 8-pack sock bundle. They cost $15 a pair or $80 for the 8-pack, making them one of the most affordable options.

Pilabarre offers a large selection of very cute socks. Many of them sport witty sayings across the ankle, such as “Sweating for the Wedding”, “Hot Girls do Pilates”, and “Tini Bit Hotter”. The majority of the socks are white with black or colored trim. These socks are shipped from the US and, with proper care, should last a year or more. They cost $24 per pair.

#5 Pilates Honey

Pilates Honey socks make gear to help “sweeten your workout.” Their socks are very cute and feature hearts, ruffles, and bows. The brand's name is printed on the bottom of the socks along with the typical dots. The socks are a cotton and nylon blend and come in two sizes. When you order from Pilates Honey, you can also order sweatshirts, hats, and more. A pair of socks costs $26.

JE6_5133#4 Bombas

Bombas socks are made of soft, earth-toned cotton blend. You can buy them as ankle socks and half-calf socks. They are sold as pairs, 4-packs, and 8-packs. You can also get a merino wool blend for chilly days. They are one of the only companies that sell gripper socks for men — a great source for guys who practice Pilates. Ankle socks cost $19, calf socks $20, and wool socks $32.

#3 Souls

Souls has one of the largest selections of gripper socks. Most are ankle socks, but you can also find crew socks and cute ballet-style ones, too. There are lots of fun decorations, including ruffle trim, hearts, sayings (Crying and Trying), cats, flowers, pink retro, and more. Socks come in small/ medium and medium/large sizes. They also sell three men's socks — white, black, and tan. Socks are $20 each and $55 for a 3-pack.

#2 Pointe Studio

Pointe Studio has literally hundreds of socks to choose from. Way beyond the classic white-and-black socks, you can get just about any color and design you can imagine — check out the plum-colored Palm Shadow, the shibori-dyed Pamela, the smiley-faced Happy, the brown-and-gray Retro Geo, or the delicate Rose Garden. And that is just a small sample! Whether you want the plainest and basic or the most ornate, Pointe has got you covered.

Socks are made of cotton and nylon, with a touch of spandex for grip. They sell their socks in three sizes, giving people with larger feet more options than most other companies. The ballet-style strap socks cost only $16 (sale prices as low as $9.60), ankle socks are $18, toeless socks are $16, fullfoot socks are $16, and crew $20. These are great prices for such attractive, well-made socks.

If you love fancy, decorative socks, then Arebesk is the company for you. They provide dozens of unique and very stylish options for everyone. Check out the moto style, “phish net” ballet, red ankle bows, fringe open toe, Lace and Pearl, and more. Their socks are made with extra silicon on the ball and heel of the foot for better longevity and gripping power. Pilates aficionados find the Arabesk are the most sticky and most stable of all the Pilates sock options, which is why they are rated the best Pilates socks.

When you buy Arabesk socks, you also receive their specially designed wash bag that helps preserve the socks even longer than usual. The bag also doubles as a carrying bag — handy for heading out to the Pilates studio.

Socks are 80% cotton and 20% spandex, and most styles come in two sizes. There are three men’s sock options, too — all black. Socks cost $18-24, depending on the style. You can purchase 3 and 6-packs too.
