Two people and PB machine

Pickleball is a sport that requires precision and accuracy. Playing matches helps improve your technique, but sometimes you need to give yourself targeted training.

If you want to become more proficient, develop better technique, or prepare for a tournament, then you need to focus on strengthening your skills through repetition. Likely, your friendly pickleball teammates will help lob a few balls at you so you can practice your topspin. However, they will probably tire after 10-15 minutes.

When you need to perfect your dink, a pickleball ball machine is the answer to your prayers. It never tires, and you can customize the machine based on several settings.

In this article, you will learn about the Lobster Pickle Phenom® ball machine, why you should use it, how to reserve it, and the cost. Read on to learn more!

The key to becoming a masterful pickleball player is to practice consistently. Learning the fundamentals of the footwork, swings, serves, and other foundational movements requires diligence and repetition.

1. Variability

The game of pickleball requires players to anticipate the actions of their opponents. The ball can come at you dozens of different ways, and you need to be prepared to act — quickly! The randomized options on the Lobster Pickle Phenom help you to learn how to respond to several types of throws so you can become a more effective player. Select for:

  • Speed
  • Distance
  • Type of throw
  • Top spin or backspin

The Pickle Phenom has a 200-ball hopper, so you can play for long periods without interruption. Whether you choose to focus on one throw or go for Fully Random, you can hit and hit and hit without interruption.

3. Solo Practice

Reserving a pickleball machine means you can practice independently, without waiting for others or adjusting to their schedules.

4. Refine Footwork

Although pickleball is a racquet sport, the dexterity of your feet is as important as your swing. Strong players move efficiently around the court, responding quickly to any and all plays. Practicing with a ball machine helps you to get used to staying on your toes, traveling and lunging. This process can also lessen the chance of injuring yourself.

5. Target Specific Skills

As you gain more experience under your belt, your skills will diversify. Yet, most people find that often there are one or two areas that seem to elude them. If you need to work on a specific skill, such as dinks or drives, select the manual mode so you can hit it again and again until you reach competency.

Learning from an experienced coach, whether via drills or private instruction, has several benefits. However, attending a class means paying for it and ensuring it works with your schedule. Private instruction can really help you improve your skills, but it can be quite pricey. Ball machines are rented by the hour and are much more affordable than drills or one-on-one training.

7. Prep for Leagues and Tournaments

If you are ready to up your game and begin to compete in leagues and/or tournaments, then consistent practice with a ball machine can help you. Target your problem areas and refine your strengths with specific throws or drills. This practice can even boost your ranking!
